Great Tours, Activities and Things to Do in Ocho Rios
March 25, 2008
If you are in Ocho Rios, you must do the Dunns River Falls climb. It is a must to say you’ve climbed the falls. When we were there in 2006 we took the Dunns River Falls Jeep Safari tour, and it was an absolute blast! Not only do you get to visit the falls, but you also get to see Fern Gully, small villages in the mountains above Ocho Rios that the normal tourists never see, as well as a stop to visit a banana grove and coffee plantation. At the end of trip and before you go to the falls, you will have a small picnic with local fruits made available, as well as some rum-punch.

Say Welcome and Thank-You at the Same Time with These Ideas!
March 16, 2008
It’s so easy to say Thank-You and Welcome at the same time. With any destination wedding a welcome basket or bag for your guests is an essential item you can’t overlook. It can be a simple gift, but it will greet your guests as they arrive in their hotel rooms and show your gratitude as well as set set the tone for the days to come. Put some thought into your gifts. You don’t have to have a huge budget, but by being creative and thoughtful you can come up with a very unique way to greet and thank your guests.
By including items unique to your wedding locale, you can create gifts your guests will treasure long after they have returned home.
Here are a few ideas:
Packaging is Everything! - select packaging that does double duty. Many Caribbean vendors sell woven baskets or bags. You could also use hotel logo bags. Then use these bags or baskets to hold your welcome goodies, and your guest can then use them again and again.
Welcome Letters are a Must! - Include a short welcome note with an itinerary. It will get your guests excited about the festivities while also letting them know where to be and when to be there.
Local Food or Drink -Visit a local grocery store, or find a locale beverage or snack to include in your gift bags. As an example, in Hawaii you might include a small package of macadamia nuts, or for Jamaica you might consider picking up some individual packs of coffee.
Music - consider picking up CD’s on-line of local music and including them in your gift packages - whether it’s Caribbean reggae, or salsa or rumba from Mexico.

Riviera Maya Information
This region is known for the tranquility of it’s uncrowded beaches, a unique network of underground rivers, over 100 cenotes, abundant eco-adventure sports including kayaking, mountain biking, scuba diving, snorkeling, trekking, bird watching and deep sea fishing. It also sports close proximity to Mexico’s Mayan archeological sites, the varied activities of the eco-archeological parks, plus golf, shopping, gourmet dining and a range of accommodations to suit every lifestyle and budget.
The climate in the Riviera Maya is semi-tropical, with an average yearly temperature of 80° degrees Fahrenheit (26 ° Celsius), which can rise to 100° degrees Fahrenheit (37.7° Celsius) in the hot summer months. June 1st is the official start of hurricane season and it ends on November 30th. From November to April, which is considered peak season; it is hot and sunny during the day and cool and breezy at night.
* February to May
February, March, April, and May are beautiful in The Riviera Maya. The Caribbean Sea is calm and clear and as summer approaches the water temperatures gradually rise. With warmer waters by May it’s usually the time that the jelly fish, or “agua mala” come to the Riviera Mayan shores. So May is a perfect time of year to go cenote hunting, instead! Nights can still be cool, but a sweater is rarely needed.
* June to August
During the summer months Playa del Carmen and The Rivera Maya are extremely HOT! The humidity rises, so afternoons are steamy and hot. It is highly recommended that you stay close to a water source. The Caribbean is so warm you can float the day away, and the cenotes stay at an even 78 degrees (25.5C) which is always refreshing. There is some rainfall in the afternoon and evenings, but it never lasts very long. The nights do not get much cooler so for a truly good night sleep air-conditioning and a good fan are highly recommended.
* September and October
September and October are considered the height of the hurricane and tropical storm season. At this time the Mayan Riviera can also get a fair amount of rain, however it doesn’t rain everyday. It is still hot and humid with days and evenings registering similar temperatures.
* November to January
These are the coolest months in Playa del Carmen and the surrounding areas, which means it is warm and sunny during the day and cool and breezy in the evenings. Rain is very rare during this time of year, but evenings can bring temps in the high 60’s (15.5C) so a sweater is recommended.
Make sure to take advantage of some of these great Activities and Tours when traveling to the Riviera Maya!

Generally, the East Cape covers Los Barriles, Buena Vista, Punta Colorado, Cabo Pulmo National Park and Bahía Los Frailes.
Forget about golf, exciting nightlife or phones. The East Cape may not be for everyone, but that’s the whole point. If you love being removed from the outside world then you will find the East Cape very appealing. From December to March, the beaches of Los Barriles swarm with brightly colored hi-tech windsurfers. Wonderfully inspiring sunrises replace the more familiar sunsets of Cabo San Lucas. One thing that Los Barriles does boast about is the East Cape Smoke House, which will pick up your fresh catch at the boat, transport it to its facility, smoke it and freeze it for your trip home.
The waters of the Sea of Cortez offer world renowned fishing, snorkeling and diving. Along with over 200 species of tropical fish which are protected within the Cabo Pulmo Marine Park, the fishing outside the park is a fisherman’s paradise. Game fish include Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Slapjack, Grouper, Sierra, Pargo, Cabrilla, and Jack Crevalle among many others.
The water temperatures from January to May and October to December range between 65 and 75 degrees. It rises to between 75-85 degrees in June through September for excellent scuba diving and snorkeling. Cabo Pulmo Marine Park boasts the only living Coral Reefs in the Sea of Cortez with eight major fingers of reef starting at the beach and stretching over a mile long.
The marine preserve lies between Los Barracas Bay (north) and Los Frailes Bay (south). Other interesting sites aside from the reef include a sea lion colony, “caves” with different varieties of coral and tropical fish, the shipwreck of an old tuna boat and miles of pristine beaches that make this area a truly beautiful get away!

Its main plaza, the Parroquia San Jose Church and historic buildings whisper peace and remind us of what a relaxed environment should be.
San Jose del Cabo is a gourmet’s paradise positioned to provide sophisticated and memorable dining experiences; there is enough variety to suit all tastes, impeccable service and wine lists suitable for even the most demanding connoisseurs.

All this is found in quiet and discreet elegance, complemented by the courtesy and smiles of the inhabitants of this lovely town.
The estuary, a natural environment unique to this region, enables the visitor to explore a series of paths where nature has built a sanctuary for all kinds of migratory birds to periodically dwell amongst the unique vegetation that flourishes in the area.

Destination Wedding Gown Travel Care
March 3, 2008
When traveling with a wedding gown you need to make sure you keep these two things in mind: padding and protection. Cover your gown with a protective bag within within a garment bag, and avoid folding it if at all possible. By hanging the dress and not folding it, you will avoid deep creases or changes in the shape of the gown. If the airline you are using will not allow you to hang a garment bag (check with your carrier in advance) you best option is going to be to pack your dress in a box. You should choose a box that is sturdy and about one-third the length of the dress, but still within the measurement guidelines for carry-one luggage. Carefully fold the gown while padding it with tissue paper, and continue to do so until the dress is firmly in place. If you’ve done it correctly, your dress shouldn’t move even if you shake the box.
As soon as you arrive at your destination, unwrap the dress and look it over carefully. If you need a quick wrinkle fix, hag it in the bathroom with the shower turned to hot and the door closed. For really stubborn wrinkles, borrow a steamer from your hotel or resort, or have the dress professionally pressed at your locale.
